BBG - Week 2
Ya, that pic up there is my 41 weeks prego with baby #4.
Today I'm on #BBG week 2. The Instagram Famous Workout all the young kids are doing.
Kayla breaks down the program with these four main categories: Resistance, Cardio, Recovery, and Challenge.
I have done several of the Resistance workouts at home when the hubs has been traveling early before the babes wake, but I also count my TRX classes at the Y. I have done the HIIT workout on the Y Treadmill and can honestly say it's the only time I've ever even ventured so high on the pace scale - ran my sprints at 8.5. Golly those 30 seconds of rest seem to get shorter and shorter. I kinda broke up the rest by doing some squats standing on the side of the treadmill and just standing there waiting for the next sprint interval. I have done a LISS run on the treadmill and outside, but also count my spin classes sometimes. I also really like the cute water counter... just to entertain myself and do something on my phone besides check IG.
I have yet to take a Challenge, but saw in Instagram yesterday that Kayla herself was doing one and it just reminded me of why I started learning more about her. She is young and focused. She began as a personal trainer for women and realized something was missing. She built this program around the idea of community and long-term health and wellness objectives not short-term goals, regardless of the silly name it has. Since her noted target market is women 18-25, Bikini Body Goals makes total sense for a name that connects with her target market. It's really more of her that was the draw for me. This one great YouTube video I watched made me laugh when the interviewer was like, "So after you finish your 12 weeks or however long you try the program, what's next?" And she's, "Like you just keep doing it." And he's like, "Forever?" And she's like, "ya."
DUH! I have such an issue with all these "cleanses" and 30-day programs. It's too familiar in the binge and purge cycles I grew up with. The last thing I'm looking for is a quick fix (unless we are talking about a broken toilet or something!). At almost 40-years-old, I want a lifestyle to take me well into the next three-plus decades of health and happiness with my amazing husband and charming children (can't help but share them here - my loves).
Back to the BBG App. So one thing I really struggle with is meal planning for all these mouths. I hadn't even considered using Kayla's meal plan, but once I looked at it - I was impressed. Plus, I read that her cutie partner, Tobi Pearce, who is the nutritionist behind her meals is a classically trained musician turned body builder, which reminds me of my husband. I rarely hear of a story like his. The guy went to Amherst College to study English and decided he wasn't well-rounded enough, so he decided to try out for the rowing team. 5AM practices in college - CRAZY! But he loved it and it turned him into the amazing athlete that he is today.
The menu planning feature is definitely not designed for a family of 6, but I've tried two dinner recipes so far and made some quantity and "what's in my kitchen" modifications, Sweet Potato & Black Bean Enchilada with Chicken & Vegetable Curry . Both of which my husband and I have LOVED and my two big kids have eaten. (The babies are a whole different story.)
So, as of Week 2 on BBG, that's me. I'm not daring enough to show my Week 1 pics yet, but home by week 12 there is something to see. Even if it is that I'm smiling in the pic vs. being hesitant about taking a bikini selfie.
Lotsa love,
Leah
